Keyboard Tricks for Win XP - Windows 7

1. The TAB key is your key to moving forward frame to frame.  The SHIFT+TAB* will move you back.
2. The ALT key will allow you to jump to the menus.  Using the underlined letter you can get to a specific menu.  For example ALT+F will get you to the FILE menu.
3. ALT+F4 will quit an application, or close a window.  It will also allow you to exit windows, if everything else is closed.
4. CTRL+INSERT will copy an item and SHIFT+INSERT will paste it in a place where the right click menus won't appear

Accounting:

• Accounting is not just for the IRS.  It is for a business owner to understand how their business is doing..

• The Balance Sheet and Income Statements are like health reports.  The sooner you have the information, the sooner you can solve any problems.

  1. The Balance Sheet:  A picture of what you have and who you owe (This includes yourself, or the business owners, which is why equity is on the liability side of the equation.)

  2. The Income Statement:  This is also called the Profit and Loss Statement.  It shows what the business did over a period of time.  What was paid in as REVENUE and what was paid out in EXPENSES.  It is actually a part of the Balance Sheet and appears as NET INCOME or RETAINED EARNINGS under the equity section.

  3. Double entry accounting is quite simple.  It works on the premise that if you get something, you have to put it somewhere.  ex. You purchase a desk:

     You get the money (an ASSET) for the desk from the bank, so you reduce that account.

     You pay for the desk, and then it becomes an asset of the company, so there is no reduction in the total assets, it is just that the money is "turned into" a desk.

     This works for all transactions.  Sometimes the money comes in as a loan, but the principle is the same.  You increase the loan (LIABILITY) amount, and increase the ASSETS.

  4. No matter what happens the Balance Sheet stays in balance with the two entries.

• Get a good accounting program by talking to your accountant first.  Many times spending money up front will save you a lot of time on the backend.

• Quality software for your accounting system will usually save you the cost of installation in less than 1.5 years.
